About two years ago, I decided I would choose a bible plan to read annually. I figured each year I may interpret things differently based on what was going on in my life. I begin highlighting scriptures that stood out to me, and now I am sharing these scriptures and my interpretation of them with you. I am by no means an expert in bible interpretation, blogging, or even writing. I am just simply sharing my thoughts. Below are the scriptures in the order I highlighted them. Feel free to comments your interpretations or thoughts of these scriptures.
Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27 NLT
Everything is centered around our relationship with God. Just like with any relationship, we strive to the be the best person we can be. Jesus gave us the example of the best us we can be. The feeling of obligation is replaced with the feeling of necessity by the desire to strengthen your relationship with God. We want to get to know God, we want to be in his presence, we want to minister, and we want to be ministered to. Knowing this, helped me to understand the Sabbath is not a day of obligation. The Sabbath is really to meet my need. My need to worship, my need to minister, and my need to replenish spiritually. It is a day of rest and focus. A day of resting in and focusing on God.
